April - Lattes with Lambs
Held at the National Colonial Farm in Accokeek, Lattes with Lambs gave members a chance to sell their work and contribute to an impressive art gallery. AAA had successful sales and a 'glue the wool on the lamb' activity with sheep Sir Nigel that was fun for all ages.
May - Spring Fest
Sponsored by the Alice Ferguson Foundation's and held at Hard Bargain Farm, Spring Fest was another opportunity for members to display and sell their art. They especially enjoyed goats and cows sneaking up behind the three booths to check them out.
June - Member meeting at Bellevue Historic Estate
Residents Gene Mirus and Patrick Heydt hosted AAA members at this historic and beautiful property. Members talked about their works in progress, which included such diverse projects as hand sewing a period costume to wear to a party at Versailles, experimenting with a vinyl cutting machine, woodworking a river table, sewing the perfect pants, watercolor paintings, beautiful but dangerous jewelry, altered books and exquisite stained glass lamps, and creative landscaping.
Fairy Trail
Many of the fairy houses along the Accokeek Foundation’s fairy trail were constructed by AAA artists. Arranged along a path to delight young and old, the houses had themes corresponding to local trees.
July - National Night Out
AAA artists stretched their talents to a new canvas with face painting and other activities at the Greater Accokeek Civic Association’s (GACA) National Night Out event at the Accokeek Firehouse.
August - Harmony Hall Show
A wide range of AAA members showed their work for more than a month at the spacious Harmony Hall Art Gallery in Fort Washington, MD. The opening reception, held on August 19, drew a large crowd. The show led to a number of sales, particularly of collage, wood sculptures and ceramics.
October - Persephone’s Pop Up
Several AAA artists cast their own spell when they took part in Persephone’s Pop Up, a conjuring market in the spirit of Halloween, held at the Moyaone Commons in Accokeek. Also, AAA sold spirited food and drink at “Wicked Wand Café, raising funds for the alliance.
November - Winter Art Market
Perfectly timed for holiday shopping, the AAA Winter Art Market was held November 18, 2023, at the Alice Ferguson Foundations’ Cafritz Center in Accokeek. Featuring a wide range of art by a dozen artists, offerings ranged from turned wooden bowls to ceramics to handmade cards to framed paintings. The market also included a silent auction.
